CGI Courses open-entry routes to start your journey to become a Chartered Governance Professional or Chartered Company Secretary

Both the CGI Foundation Programme and the Advanced Certificate in Corporate Governance are open-entry qualifications. They can be taken by anyone with a relevant degree or experience in corporate governance.

This certificate or advanced corporate governance certificate are specifically designed for professionals who are responsible for setting good governance frameworks and procedures. It will help them maintain stakeholder dialogue throughout their organization.

CGI Foundation Programme – Global Governance entry for CGI training courses

The CGI Foundation Programme is an entry level course to join the CGI. It is recommended that you study for 200 hours to pass the 3 hour closed book online CGI exam.

You can start your CGI training with the CGI Foundation Programme. However, before you can start your training, you must have passed the CGI Foundation, have a relevant degree or be a qualified professional to take the next step.

For the CGI Foundation Programme and other CGI courses, students must first become an enrolled member of the CGI before they can enrol for any of the courses they have chosen. The enrolment deadline dates for these exams are usually March and September each year.

Some qualified accountants and lawyers are entitled to certain exam exemptions. If you are a qualified professional and have enough post-qualification experience you may be able to go down the CGI Fast-track route.

CGI Courses, CGI Training and CGI Exams

For all CGI Courses, students must first become an ICSA member and then enrol for the relevant exam(s) they have chosen. Exams are online and in June and November each year.

You need to register to take the exam before the respective cut-off date in March for June exams and September for November exams.

Please check the CGI’s website to ensure that these enrolment deadline dates have not changed. Please note that the CGI change the exam registration dates periodically.

Exemptions from some of the modules for CGI Courses

Exemptions can be applied for in Applied Business Law and Corporate Law if you hold a law degree and are studying the CGI qualifying programme.

For those holding a finance degree you can apply for exemption from Financial Reporting and Analysis and Applied Business Law.
